Although he was destined for greatness at birth, that doesn’t necessarily mean that his path clear in the slightest. Shortly after his birth, Naruto would lose his parents and have to shoulder the responsibility for something that was out of his control. Because of this, he was forced to grow up while being shunned by his peers and superiors. Due to the loneliness that he experienced as a child, he developed an overwhelming crave for acknowledgement. In order to obtain this, young Naruto would pull pranks on all of the inhabitants of Konoha and even take it as far as to stake his claim as a future Hokage of his village. Despite being vilified for something inside of him, Naruto would eventually obtain a few friends as well as a rival after entering the academy. Sasuke Uchiha would become the catalyst for his growth down the line, causing him to embark on an endless journey to hone his skills. Throughout his years in the academy, Naruto would continue to face more hardships while learning the truth about the ‘monster’ inside of him.
Along with his rivalry with Sasuke, Naruto would start to harbor feelings towards his other Team 7 member, Sakura Haruno. It was unfortunate for him because it was the cause of a lot of heartache (as well as a few broken bones..) due to her emotional attachment to Sasuke. After finding a home in Konoha for the first time, life would change when Sasuke decided to leave the village. The two rivals would engage in a duel in which Naruto would suffer a major defeat, dealing a major blow to his confidence. Despite his feelings for Sakura, he would make a promise to return Sasuke to the village for the sake of making her happy.
Naruto would obtain a new mentor in Jiraiya, his father’s former teacher. Their relationship was very strained in the beginning due to the fact that they were so alike. There was also an issue with the fact that Naruto was a slow learner and needed everything broken into the simplest term for it to make sense. The blonde haired shinobi wouldn’t return home for another two years from his training expedition with his master with renewed confidence in his abilities. But it was not without ‘loss’. While he was away, all of his friends managed to improve their ranks while he was still a Genin (the lowest ninja rank).
Even with his progress over the years as a ninja, Naruto would continue to experience loss with the death of his teacher. He would also conqueror the demon inside of him, using him as an asset instead of a liability. Although it was something that took everything away from him, it gave him the opportunity to finally meet his parents. Now that all of the anchors have been released, Naruto looks to the future in hopes of accomplishing his final two goals in becoming Hokage and to bring Sasuke back to the village without killing him.
In a few words, Naruto is exuberant, brash, inattentive and naïve. He still harbors some of his childish charm but whenever someone dear to him is in trouble, he is more than willing to be serious. He is willing to befriend virtually anyone and he usually can see the good in everyone. Notorious for being a picky eater and selfish at times over things that don’t really matter, his true nature shines through in the fact that he is very selfless because he is willing to give up his own life in order to save his friend from despair.
